Gustav Klimt is one of the most recognized modern artists of the 20th century. And as behind every great artist, there is a muse that inspires him. This is the case of Emilie Flöge, a Viennese dressmaker of the early twentieth century whose designs inspired some of the artist’s most famous paintings. As it has happened with many avant-garde women, the story of Emilie has not been recognized as it should. But little by little, her figure and her contribution to the world of fashion are being told.

And we say avant-garde because she designed clothes for a new concept of woman, with more practical and comfortable designs that did not have the corset and had wider comfortable sleeves, influenced by the feminist movement of the time. A revolutionary style that many did not understand and yet Klimt did appreciate.
