Ikat is one of the oldest textile techniques and patterns in the world. It is the reflection of a rich and diverse historical heritage, coming from Indonesia to Afghanistan, India and even South America. Although what most catches our attention is that its specific origin remains an unsolved mystery.
As far as we know, ikat weaving arrived in Europe through the Silk Road, in the sixteenth century, becoming, as has happened in other countries, one of the hallmarks of the Mallorca island, which is the only place on the continent where they continue to work this pattern in an artisanal way. In this place, the ikat has another name, although the technique is the same: lengua.
