Castlecore: the ‘Medieval Style’ decor trend taking over 2025

A concept that reinterprets the aesthetics of castles to restore their warmth, symbolism, and timeless beauty

New trends often surprise us with their ability to revive the unexpected. Such is the case with the Castlecore aesthetic, inspired by the Tudor era. According to the annual Pinterest Predicts report, searches for “medieval fashion” have increased by 110% in the past year. This new decorative movement, which evokes the grandeur of medieval castles, is gaining serious momentum. But it comes with a twist—reimagined through a contemporary lens and adapted to the comforts of modern life.

What is Castlecore?

As the name suggests, Castlecore is a fusion of “castle” and “core” (essence). It’s not about turning your home into a fortress, but rather about capturing the soul of medieval interiors—sober, noble, and theatrical—and blending it with the comfort and functionality of today. This trend brings together rich fabrics, natural materials, and a fairytale-like atmosphere that steers us away from digital noise and reconnects us with sensory and authentic experiences.

From the Throne to Your Living Room

The world of Castlecore translates into interiors filled with warmth and nostalgia. Fabrics take center stage: ornamental tapestries depicting forests or legends, heavy velvet curtains, trimmings, fringes, and luxurious materials like linen, silk, or textured cotton.

As for furniture, robustness reigns supreme: pieces made from solid wood, wrought iron, or untreated stone add character and presence. Lighting also plays a key role—candles, chandelier-style ceiling lamps, and golden or bronze tones create an intimate and immersive ambiance.

Colors, Textures, and Theatrical Flair

Castlecore’s color palette is deeply connected to nature and history: dark tones like burgundy, moss green, midnight blue, and tobacco brown. These hues pair with rich textures—chenilles, jacquards, wools—that add both visual and tactile warmth.

There’s also room for fantasy: shields, decorative swords, handcrafted ceramics… Architecturally, vaulted ceilings and arches make a comeback, completing the visual story of a style that merges Gothic romance with timeless charm.

Quintana Partners: The Art of Reinterpretation

Amidst the rise of this aesthetic comes Squella, the second collaboration between  Quintana Partners for Güell Lamadrid. Interior designers Benito Escat and Pol Castells take inspiration from the Tudor period to craft a collection that reinterprets Castlecore with elegance, modernity, and expert craftsmanship.Composed of five unique fabrics, Squella stands out for its classic floral prints, soft chenilles, natural stripes, and Hungarian-style geometric patterns. Each design brings personality, texture, and sophistication to interiors—while maintaining the nostalgic essence so central to the trend.

A Sanctuary with Soul

Castlecore is more than just a passing trend—it’s a statement of intent. It invites us to live in spaces with history, fabrics with soul, and objects that reconnect us with the value of well-made things. With collections like Squella, the Middle Ages are reborn, and our homes become modern-day sanctuaries where tradition and innovation coexist in harmony.
